Background
In the early stages of digitalization in the 1980s, the fundamentals of data transfer between systems were established. Although technology has advanced significantly since then, these fundamentals and the implementations of data transfer have not changed notably. Today, control over data transfer management lies primarily with large ICT companies in the United States, which oversee operations globally.
While the foundational principles still function, there is potential for improvement in data transfer implementations that would allow users to enhance their IC security, manage their own data, and develop their own independent data transfer systems.
Open Questions
Most ICT projects focus on the ability of applications to process data. However, it is crucial to understand how and by whom data is transferred and processed.Many organizations are developing separate applications to establish trust, ensure secure data transfer, and manage data flows. Several key questions remain unresolved:
• Who manages the functions used in data transfer?
• Who is responsible for system security?
• How is trust between users created and maintained?
• Where is the data stored and who owns it?
